ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team upset second-place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at home in a 3-2 overtime thriller at Wilson Field on Wednesday. Junior F Julia Diaz scored the golden goal for the Panthers at the 98' minute mark to give the Panthers their first win in four games.
Trailing 2-0 in the second half, senior F Darrah Shields used fancy foot work to duke a Panther defender and put the Athenas on the board 2-1 fifteen minutes into the period.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps then tied it up 2-2 at the 19 minute mark when sophomore F Sydney Smith capitalized on a free kick from 35-yards out.
Diaz's game-winning goals came off an outside assist from senior M Celina Solomon who now leads the Panthers with four assists this season.
Chapman will play its final match of the season at home on Saturday, Oct. 31 against Occidental. The Panthers will recognize seven seniors on their Senior Day match prior to kickoff at 11 a.m.
