The academic recognition continued to roll in for Panther teams with the Chapman University women’s lacrosse taking its turn to grab the headline. The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association recognized Chapman as an IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, as well as giving special recognition to five student-athletes.
An impressive number of Chapman University student-athletes were again recognized for their work in the classroom. The Panthers placed 178 student-athletes on the SCIAC’s annual All-Academic team, the conference announced on Thursday.
Recently graduated women’s lacrosse student-athlete Tessa Oliaro was recently nominated for the NCAA Women of the Year. The NCAA announced its list of nominees in a release this week.
Junior Becka Wachtel highlighted three selections from the Chapman University women’s lacrosse team to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-West Region team. Wachtel earned First Team honors with seniors Kelsey Mackin and Dillan Watts joining her on the Second Team.

Senior Kelsey Mackin set the tone for the Chapman University women’s lacrosse season on Saturday afternoon scoring seven goals to help the Panthers to a 15-5 victory over Pomona-Pitzer at Wilson Field. Mackin’s seven-goal effort in the home opener tied the school record she set last season against Puget Sound.
