John has been coaching at Chapman since 1992 as an assistant to his sister, Mary. During John's tenure on the coaching staff, the Panthers have appeared in the NCAA playoffs seven times including reaching the second round of the regional tournament in 2011.

He currently teaches at El Modena High. A native of Orange, John attended and played basketball at Orange High. He received his bachelor's degree in kinesiology and health promotions from Cal State Fullerton in 1995. He resides in Orange with his wife Valerie and daughter Kendall.
