Lopez returned to Chapman in 2008 after a three-year hiatus. He initially joined the Panthers' coaching staff in 1996 with the arrival of head coach Eddie Carrillo and stayed at Chapman until 2004. He led Santa Ana High to four league championships as a head coach in the 1990s.
