PASADENA, Calif. – A pair of top-20 individual finishes could not help the Chapman University men's golf team from tying for seventh place at the SCIAC Tournament #4 at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena on Tuesday. The tournament was the second-to-last event of the season for the Panthers.
Chapman scored 324 overall, tied with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. The Panthers finished 17 strokes behind tournament winner University of Redlands, which won the eight-team event with an overall score of 307.
It was junior Travis Walker who paced the Panthers with a score of 77. Walker's 5-over par was the eighth-best in the tournament and was his first top-10 finish of the season. His impressive performance was derived from a 1-under par score on par 3's which led all tournament players.
Senior Van Pierce finished with a score of 81 which tied him for 20th overall. Pierce had a tough front nine, but came back strong with a 39 on the back and captured another top-20 finish. Freshman Sean Dusselier's 82 came within one stroke of matching Pierce's performance. Dusselier finished 27th in the tournament.
