Bishop has turned around the defense over the past six seasons, turning it into one of the  strengths of the Chapman program. In 2008, the Panthers allowed just 17.8 points per game - the lowest opponent average in 13 seasons - and in 2007 they ranked No. 42 in Division III in total defense. Bishop has been at Chapman since the program's inception in 1994 and has served as defensive coordinator since 1997. Prior to coming to Chapman he coached for 10 years at the college level at Cal State Long Beach and Whittier College. He received both a BA and MA in Physical Education from Long Beach State.
